Forte Charity for Inspiration

Giving Back

We celebrated the 15th anniversary of Forte Charity for Inspiration (October 2023) and the educational projects of the charity in Africa because of your generous donations. We have been active in Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Sudan so far, with plans to reach more African countries in future. The educational grants we offer have helped several young people further their education and have better lives. Forte Charity for Inspiration won an International Changemakers Award from Coventry UK City of Culture 2021. We hope to see you at our annual Forte Charity Walk to School fundraising event if you can make it, but donations for support are welcome anytime on our Justgiving page.

How it all started

Forte Charity for Inspiration was founded in 2008 by Dr Afiniki Akanet who was a UK international medical student herself at the time. The charity has been to several schools and orphanages in Africa, giving motivational talks and financial support to students and schools in need.

Our work initially started in northern Nigeria but has since expanded to other countries, including Ivory Coast (HELLO), South Sudan, Ghana and Tanzania. We offer tuition fee grants to students in higher education who would otherwise drop out due to financial constraints. The grants offered, thanks to generous donations from our supporters, have helped to train doctors and other graduates in Nigeria. Students can email fortecharity@live.co.uk for grant application forms at least four weeks before fees are due. Grants are offered based on need, merit and availability of funds.

Forte Charity has been recognised and supported by several UK Rotary Clubs, where Afiniki has given her motivational talks. UK fundraising events so far have included fashion shows, clothes sales, dinner parties, shoe box appeals and the annual Forte Charity Walk to School. The Forte Walk to School is a six-mile walk to and from a school in memory of little children in remote parts of Nigeria who have to walk so far daily just to get an education. There is information every year about this on our Justgiving and Facebook pages.

The UK trustees for Forte Charity include Dr Zainab Oseni and Mrs Claire Evans. They have been dedicated and valuable to the charity, in spite of their own busy family and professional lives as UK health workers themselves.

Forte Charity also supports schools and projects in deprived parts of Africa to help young people get an education as a way out of poverty. We believe that GREATNESS BEGINS IN THE MIND and everyone deserves a chance to pursue their dreams. Please consider supporting us with monthly donations via our account details below or a donation of any amount through Justgiving. THANK YOU SO MUCH to all our kind donors and supporters who keep us going. Please email us to find out about joining our active Whatsapp community for updates, or follow us on Facebook for photos and updates.
